Fragments Magazine is a curated print publication that brings together essays and cultural critiques exploring identity, violence, and transformation. Through layered typography, imagery, and intentional pacing, the magazine creates a cohesive space where personal narratives and social commentary connect as part of a larger conversation
The opening spreads for Fragments Magazine were designed individually for each essay, using the tone and subject matter of the articles to guide the visual direction. Illustration-heavy layouts, integrated typography, and custom pacing give each story its own distinct identity while blending imagery directly into the reading experience. While the magazine follows a consistent editorial structure of three-column layouts and pull quotes, subtle typographic interventions were used to reflect the themes of each story. In one essay about women and bodily space, for example, the title is compressed into a single column to symbolize the limited space women are often allowed to occupy, using the layout itself as part of the narrative.

While creating Fragments Magazine, I reflected on the essays and articles I’ve encountered scattered across the internet, deeply personal writings that stayed with me and were often saved away in inboxes, bookmarks, or folders for safekeeping. I wanted to create a home for these kinds of stories, one where personal narrative and lived experience are placed at the forefront.
Problem to solve: Meaningful and important essays on topics like identity, violence, and transformation were scattered across various platforms, making it difficult to find, engage with, and experience these voices as part of a larger, connected conversation.
Solution: Fragments Magazine was created as a curated print publication to bring together powerful essays and cultural critiques in one thoughtfully designed space. Instead of starting with a moodboard or preset style, I dived straight into the design, letting the content organically guide the pacing, typography, and layered imagery. By blending personal narrative with social commentary and intentional typographic detail, Fragments offers a cohesive home where each contribution becomes a vital fragment of a larger conversation.
